Japan and British Columbia came together last night to toast the birthday of the Emperor of Japan with sake, sushi and speeches. The newly-formed B.C. Sake Association were on hand pouring a range of their products including a Osake Junmai sparkling sake from Granville Island's Artisan Sake Maker which could make for an interesting locally-produced swap for Champagne over the holiday season. BC Premier Christy Clark gave a no-notes speech talking about the long history between the province and Japan, praising the Japanese for their famously polite society. Taking a leaf from that book, Eater is, of course, too well-mannered to spill any gossip from the night needless to say, our bowing skills are now second to none.
