I'd like to cut the ribbon and announce that Eater Vancouver is now (sniiiiip) officially open. We'll be bringing readers in-depth coverage of the Vancouver restaurant, dining and nightlife scene and sharing what makes eating and drinking in this city so damn good. From the latest Gastown opening, secret menu items, chef and bartender gossip to the latest Gastown closure - we'll bring you original, 100% independent coverage, reader tips and all the latest on what the restaurant world is talking about.
Eater Vancouver couldn't be more delighted to join the growing family of Eater websites, which includes Eater National and local sites in 27 North American markets. We're also proud to be launching alongside fellow Canadians Eater Montreal and Eater Toronto and our sister real estate sites Curbed Vancouver and Curbed Toronto.
A little about me, Nikki Bayley: I began my career as a music journalist and broadcaster in the mid-90s, criss-crossing my way across the UK (oh yes, I'm English) and Europe in the back of tour vans asking searching questions like "If you were a biscuit what sort would you be?" (Ginger nut - Damon Albarn, Blur). Fast-forward 20 years and I switched music for food and travel; I've drunk my way across the Loire Valley slept in an igloo in Montreal and tried white water rafting in Sri Lanka. I've been lucky enough to visit some amazing places - eating everything along the way - but I knew the first time that I saw Vancouver that I'd found home and here's where I plan to stay.
So that's what I'm bringing to this kitchen party - but while Eater Vancouver is your go-to place for all things food and drink in Rain City, we can't do it without our readers. Hit up the tipline if you think you have a story we should share - if you've heard a rumour about Gordon Ramsey opening a pop-up beavertail counter in Yaletown, let us know. If your friend works for a guy who spoke to a woman who knows for a fact that servers at that fancy place downtown aren't getting their tips, let us know. If you catch a chef scouting out potential new premises - let us know. No story too small, no tale too weird. Send it on over to Vancouver@eater.com.
And while you're here, follow us on Twitter @VancouverEater and like us on Facebook - get the set, why don't you?
