It's that time of year again: the winners of the 18th annual Georgia Straight "Best Of Vancouver" awards have been announced after readers from across the Lower Mainland voted in 260 categories. Let the arguing and disagreements commence...
Yet again Chambar won Best Independent restaurant along with Best Romantic coming second to Hawksworth in the Fine Dining restaurant category. Best Brunch went again to Cafe Medina, Best New Restaurant went to Yaletown's Homer Street Cafe and Bar. West 4th's Naam scooped five awards: Best for Stretching Your Dollar, Best Veggie, Best Vegan, Best Late Night Take-Out and 3rd place for Best Gluten-Free restaurant.
In the coffee section, 49th Parallel won Best Independent, JJ Bean were voted Best Local Chain and Starbucks nudged Tim Hortons out of first place taking the Best National Chain award. In the brewery section, Granville Island Brewing won Best Local Microbrewery and Best Locally Brewed Beer for their "Lions Winter Ale". Mission Hill won Best B.C. Winery for white wine and Burrowing Owl won Best B.C. red. Uva scored Best Wine Bar and the Keefer bagged Best Bar Lounge.
