CHINATOWN — Local sausage heroes, Bestie are hosting Canada's very first Freigeist Tap Takeover tonight from 6p.m. What is that, you cry? Well, "Freigeist is the experimental offshoot of Cologne's revolutionary small brewery, Braustelle, which strives to break the chains of industrial brewing by reviving and updating Germany's unique, historical beer styles." DOWNTOWN — Limited tickets are on sale for Vancouver's inaugural Calvados Cocktail Competition featuring six of the city's best bartenders vying to win a $1000 cash prize and a prized bottle of 20-year old Pere Magloire Calvados. The contest is at Uva on Tuesday February 18 from 7-10p.m. Tickets are $30 and include samples of each cocktail plus snacks from Uva. [Eaterwire

MOUNT PLEASANT — Another first for the city - this time a Curry Cup on Tuesday March 4. Eight of Vancouver's top chefs from the Chefs' Table Society will compete to win, including Brian Skinner from the Acorn, Chris Whittaker from Forage and Hamid Salimian from NEXTJEN Gluten-Free. Judges include Angus An from Maenam/Longtail Kitchen. Tickets are $59 and include eight curries, samples from BC wines and craft beers. All proceeds will go to the Chefs' Table Society in BC.
