Vancouver's loss is the Okanagan's gain as ex-Secret Location pastry chef Kira Desmond is joining the team at the Mission Hill Family Estate in two weeks time. Desmond, famous for her multi-element confections which feature edible flowers and chocolate 'clays' spoke to Eater about the move.
I'm excited about living in the Okanagan and being so deeply immersed in the food and wine culture. I graduated from The Culinary Institute of America in Napa Valley, and with that experience I gained an affinity for the seasonality of ingredients, wine culture, and the pertinence between food and wine.
I will be working with an incredible team of chefs and cooks to create and oversee the dessert, bread, and pastry program for the Terrace Restaurant. I very much look forward to working with Executive Chef, Chris Stewart and joining such an esteemed, creative, and inspired team at Mission Hill. When I start, you can expect to see the freshest local fruits, vegetables and herbs, and a menu attentive to the seasonality of ingredients."
