GASTOWN— More news on that Nicli Antica extension - it's now being called Next Door and is in the final stages of menu development. As we reported last month, small plates are on the menu along with hand-crafted modern classic cocktails and an Italian-focused wine list. Watch this space for more. [EW]
YALETOWN— All change down at chef Lucais Syme's La Pentola as spring gives way to summer on a fresh seasonally-inspired menu which is now available. You can still dine family-style with seven or ten-course shared feasts for $60 or $75 per person. New menu items include Black cod 'baccala', potato puree, herb salad and orange butter and Mafalda, rabbit and pancetta ragu. Coming Thursday a new cocktail menu which features the Ragazzina, with quince-infused Courvoisier cognac and St. Germain with bubbly and peach bitters, and a bottled and carbonated negroni rosato with Bombay Gin, house-made vermouth and Campari with orange oil. [EW]
GRANVILLE ISLAND— Signs of the summer are everywhere - so long as we ignore the Juneuary flash-floods and thunder that is. Edible Canada's pop-up take out window is back for the third years and this time they have a themed custom-built structure which has transformed the window into a traditional chip wagon. On the menu duck fat frites, cod, humboldt squid and fanny bay oysters and, of course, poutine. All seafood is ocean wise and also gluten free options are available. [EW]
