Vancouver Shucker Scoops $5,000 Prize; Irish Heather Now Open for Family Dining

KITSILANO— Book your table for Bistro Pastis' Fête de la Bastille on July 14, where there'll be a special celebratory menu plus live music from Pepper Bayard singing classic French chansons. [EW]

GASTOWN— Embrace the new liquor law changes with your family at the Irish Heather who are now one of the first liquor primary venues in BC to receive approval to allow minors to dine with their families. According to owner Sean Heather: "When we originally opened the Irish Heather with a restaurant license, we used to have regulars bring their kids and incredibly popular Sunday lunches for families. It was overall a completely different daytime environment, similar to what you would find in Ireland." The Irish Heather will be launching a new kids' menu next week. Kids under 10 years old will eat for free from 11:30am to 7:00pm. [EW]

DOWNTOWN — Will a restaurant concept named Bar Verde open inside Canadian Nordstrom stores? Nordstrom is due to open at the Pacific Centre in 2015 and according to Eater Toronto, the clothing chain registered the restaurant name for use in Canada. [ETO]

WHISTLER— Congratulations to Vancouver's own Issac Del Campo who won the Bearfoot Bistro World Oyster Shucking contest yesterday. He scoops a $5,000 prize—courtesy of Sawmill Bay Shellfish Company - which is the largest purse for any oyster-shucking contest. Whistler's Amy Huddle from Sushi Village won the $5,000 prize from Ketal One for her Oishi Caesar. [EW]
