They have everything you can imagine on a stick: Atticus Garant on Zakkushi on Denman

Atticus Garant, Executive Sous Chef, Fairmont Pacific Rim: I recommend Zakkushi on Denman. This place is ridiculous, exciting and delicious - and though I have never travelled to Tokyo - I feel like that this would be typical of their local Izakaya scene. They have everything you can imagine on a stick and all cooked over charcoal flame – in fact they use a special type of charcoal (Binchotan) which contains an extremely high carbon content, meaning the flame is very hot as well giving ability to cook the food without losing the products natural flavor. 
My personal recommendations are the oropon tsukune - chicken meat ball w/ grated diakon and ponzu sauce and umeshiso yaki - chicken thigh w/ sour plum and Japanese basil.
