Charles Joly of the USA was just named 2014 World Class Bartender 2014, pipping Vancouver's Grant Sceney to the post. But Grant was named the winner of one of the challenge rounds, the Written Word. Canada can be rightly proud of Sceney's efforts - placing higher than any Canadian bartender ever has before and putting Canada's craft cocktails in the world's spotlight. Spain took the crown for the Blend of Worlds challenge, Austria won the Sensory challenge, Denmark bagged the Tale of Two Martinis challenge, France triumphed at the Market Challenge and Singapore won the Food Pairing round, the USA won the Speed Round challenge and Italy claimed victory in the final Punch and Glass round.
World Class Canada posted on social media earlier that, "In the final round, with a stunning London view behind him, all nine judges rotated to Grant's bar. His punch included Zacapa Rum, Grand Marnier, pimento bitters, lemon and pineapple. His signature cocktail was a Tequila Last Word, with homemade chartreuse and homemade blueberry liqueur. Very impressive!" Expect a full round-up of this story next week, but for now we stand with the bartending community across Canada to send our cheers to Grant Sceney.
