Chambar Final Service 11p.m, Saturday

Welcome to our photo series Eater Scenes, where Eater photographer Dan Poh visits some of the city's great restaurants to capture them at a certain, and very specific, point in their life. Today Chambar at its final hour of business.

It was the end of an era - and the start of something exciting on Saturday night in Crosstown: after a decade at 562 Beatty, Chambar served its last heaped portion of moules-frites and closed its doors... but will be opening next door at 568 in spacious new surroundings this weekend. This story from the Georgia Straight in 2010 goes some way to explaining just why Chambar is so very important in the Vancouver restaurant scene: L'Abattoir, Medina, Bao Bei, Boneta, Wolf in the Fog, Save on Meats, Dirty Apron - all founded by Chambar alumni. Time now to raise a glass and say a fond au revoir - not goodbye.
