Look Inside the Village's New Steel Toad Brewpub

Another day, another Vancouver brewery opens up, but the Steel Toad Brewpub and Dining Hall seems to have loftier ambitions than most. Located at 97 East 2nd Avenue (between Ontario and Quebec) in the heritage Opsal Steel Building, Steel Toad's huge space can seat 175 in its main floor area and 80 in its restaurant mezzanine. Chef Robbie Robinson, (Vancouver Club, West) has a menu of classic pub dishes planned for the main floor (think chicken wings and shepherd's pie) and more elevated delights for the dining room (beef and foie gras carpaccio, herb crusted halibut). But what of the beer? Well, brewmaster Chris Charron is planning to open in a few weeks time with around 10 beers which will include a blonde, English-style bitter, saison, and rye IPA. Along with its house taps, the bar will also have guest taps featuring local and overseas brewers. For the non-beer fans, a cocktail program is on the cards too. Eater photographer Tallulah took a look around at a recent preview.
